So here we are, it’s Christmas Eve! The fridge is full, cheese, chutneys and prosecco are on tap and the festive tunes are on repeat.
And while I love the festive season because wearing pjs’s and pigging out with chocolate seems so much more acceptable, it’s got me wondering if this really is the most wonderful time of the year. I’m sure many of us can agree that each time Christmas comes around it feels there is this ever increasing pressure for it to be the biggest and best holiday yet. You MUST have fun, it MUST have the best day of the year and why on earth aren’t you feeling festive yet?!?
If you’ve read any of my blog posts, you will know that I am a lover of Christmas. I like to embrace the cheesy side of the holidays, wear the festive socks, treat myself to christmas pj’s and blast Mariah Carey as soon as bonfire night has been and gone- yes I’m that girl. But I’ve also come to realise that it isn’t the day itself that makes it a special time for me, it’s having a break and spending quality time with the people I love. When we’re little Christmas is such a magical time but the older we get the more we realise that the presents, food aren’t as important as we thought they were. I tell you, Mariah Carey was onto something when she sang All I Want For Christmas Is You.
So if you’re celebrating Christmas tomorrow, if you’re not, if you’re totally excited for the festivities or it’s all just feeling a bit forced- I hope you spend the day doing what makes you happy. Despite how it may seem on good ol’ social media, the perfect Christmas day doesn’t exist! Let’s take some much needed time for ourselves, in whatever shape that may be. And remember, it’s just a day.
So Merry Christmas, look after yourself and say hello to Father Christmizzle from me!
